Waterfront Redevelopment Project
Construction of the Downtown Fort Myers Riverfront Basin Detention Project starts March 19, 2012. During the construction, Edwards Drive from Hendry Street west to the parking lot driveway at Harborside Event Center will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Crews are expected to work within the fences during the daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. At times, nighttime work may be necessary.
This project will improve the quality of water discharging from the urban area and improve the water quality in the Caloosahatchee River that ultimately flows to the Gulf of Mexico. The downtown riverfront detention basin will serve to infuse the downtown with a new dimension of waterfront that will serve as an amenity to residents and visitors and stimulate improvement to downtown Fort Myers.
Cost of the project is $5.3 million dollars and is expected to be completed in late 2012. Take a look at the Waterfront Project Overview.
