May 28, 2012 - June 1 kicks off summer for Fort Myers Art Walk
Fort Myers, Fl (May 28, 2012) - Art Walk is held the first Friday of every month. The River District art galleries and art spaces have lined up some exciting new exhibits for the June Art Walk.
The next monthly downtown Fort Myers Art Walk will take place on Friday, June 1, with local art galleries and art stops featuring new exhibits and group shows. The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. The June Art Walk will include numerous art galleries and art stops and will feature new art shows, live music, and the traditional after party. The public can meet the artists during the show openings.
Some art highlights of the Friday, June 1, Art Walk:
- Art of the Olympians: Young Artists Awards vocalists Sam Bostic and Sarah Daigle will be performing at the Art of the Olympians Museum from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Art League of Fort Myers: Opening reception for Longer Days show.
- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for exhibit featuring 17 artists from Sanibel Island’s Tower Gallery; and artists Gael Collar and Alisha Koyanis.
- daas Gallery: Opening reception for Naples based artist Willow with her newest collection of paintings entitled Passage. Her sister Bavy will display her enchanting jewel creations for the first time in Fort Myers.
- Gallery Showcase and Information Center at IberiaBank (Bayview Court at First Street). Art Walk T-shirts are available at this location as well as buttons, maps and brochures.
- HOWL Gallery: Monsters Attack Fort Myers: Opening of a new solo exhibition by gallery co-owner, painter, and tattoo artist Andy Howl. Cooties, Mr. Peanut, Reddy Kilowatt, Sea-Monkeys and other relics of American pop-culture tower over historic Fort Myers in this new body of paintings and prints inspired by Japanese giant monster movies and retro America.
- In One Instant: The gallery begins its second month as a co-op with the addition of a new photographer (John McCuen) and new photos. The exhibit will showcase 12 different photographers in its main gallery space.
- Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center: Opening for "It's Raining Art," a juried exhibition. Artwork will include rain, umbrellas, and/or related themes.
- Space 39 Gallery: Group art show.
- The Oasis Luxury Towers: Mis amigos: A group show with artists Portilla, Malagon, Valadez, Perez, Fisher, & Romero.
- UNIT A Contemporary Art Space: All new 2012 small works on special display. 6x6", 11x14" and 12x12" Jansens now available.

Held the first Friday of every month from 6 to 10 p.m., Art Walk features local and national artwork in the downtown art galleries and several art stops in the Fort Myers River District. The evening culminates with an after party at 10 p.m. The after party will be held at Spirits of Bacchus on Hendry Street. This regular cultural event draws between 1,500 and 2,500 people each month to the downtown Fort Myers River District.
Always a collector’s item, new Art Walk buttons will be available at galleries that night. Art Walk has its own T-shirt (in red or black). Shirts are available for a $12 donation at the IberiaBank gallery showcase during Art Walk.
A map of Art Walk, showing Art Walk partner locations and parking will be distributed by participating galleries. Art Walk is a rain or shine event. Art Walk was started by a group of art galleries and art enthusiasts and debuted in October of 2008. Art Walk is a River District Alliance event.
