Celebrating over 12 years of Award-Winning Regional Theatre, Florida Rep is a fully professional theatre company located in the heart of the Fort Myers River District that produces a wide variety of comedies, dramas and musicals. Performing in the newly renovated Historic Arcade Theatre, Florida Rep brings more than 70,000 people to the River District annually throughout its October to May season. Florida Rep is the only theatre company of its caliber in Southwest Florida, and was recently praised nationally by The Wall Street Journal. In February 2010 acclaimed Drama Critic, Terry Teachout, said that Florida Rep “Sets the bar high,” and in 2009 called Florida Rep’s work “Profoundly Satisfying,” and told America to “Make haste to Fort Myers, where the weather is warm and the theater fine!”
ROBERT CACIOPPO, Florida Rep Founder & Producing Artistic Director,
Robert Cacioppo was recently honored by The News-Press as one of 125 Influential Local Leaders. He is an Angel of the Arts Awards winner (Arts Organization Leader of the Year) of 2005. Under Robert’s leadership, Florida Rep was named “Best Performing Arts Group in Southwest Florida” in 2001, 2004 and 2006. He was also honored as one of the “Men and Women of the Year” by Gulfshore Life Magazine in 2001. Robert is a proud member of SDC (Society of Directors and Choreographers). Robert was born and raised in New York City. He began his professional career in 1978 with The Passion of Alice at New York City’s famous Greenwich Mews Theatre. He directed extensively in New York City before coming to Florida twenty- five years ago. Since that time, Mr. Cacioppo has become a leader in Southwest Florida’s Theatre movement. He became Artistic Director of the Pirate Playhouse in 1990 turning that company, at the time, into the area’s only resident Actor’s Equity Association company and directing over sixty productions. Selected New York credits include: Hamlet at the Judith Anderson Theatre on Theatre Row, Our Town and Hair at Queens Theatre in the Park and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest at Town Hall. Robert’s favorite direction is home, where he happily lives in Fort Myers with his wife, actress/producer Carrie Lund, occasionally with his two college-aged children, Matthew (a Gator) and Julia (a Seminole) – and a Golden Retriever named Annie (a Fetcher).
